Figure 135 shows a basic deployment. The FortiDDoS appliance is positioned ‘inline’, meaning it is installed between the Internet and the protected network.

FortiDDoS is stateful and bidirectional. The data packet traffic is described as either incoming (inbound) and outgoing (outbound).

For networks with multiple servers, you can provision a port pair to each server. For example, to protect 8 servers with connections with a total throughput of up to 8 Gbps, connect each server to a port pair on a FortiDDoS 800B.
