Load balancing distributes incoming traffic from clients among multiple back-end servers. If you have only one cluster of servers on a single network, you will only need load balancing among the servers on your local network. However, if you have multiple clusters located around the world — perhaps in Amsterdam, Cape Town, Santiago, Mumbai, Shanghai, and Chicago — you can benefit from global load balancing.
